ideas for you to take action in your town
crowdsourcing community building actions for each other
How do we fix (waves arms) *this*? 😡 The world's problems feel so large while we feel so small. But that doesn't mean we can't make a difference.
We can each make an impact by focusing on improving, strengthening, and building resiliency in our local communities. But what exactly does that look like? Let's figure it out together.
If you want help figuring out how to take action in this chaotic, collapsing world, consider being a candidate for crowdsourced community-building brainstorming. Let’s put our heads together to determine where we can have a meaningful impact that aligns with our skills and interests.
I've compiled a survey with a few basic questions to learn more about you. With that information, I'll share a brief bio in a future post with suggestions about what community-building ideas might work for you. Hopefully, others in the Sage Neighbor comments can also chime in to offer suggestions.
I will make this free for the first ten survey participants. After that, it will only be available to paid subscribers. I'm not sure how sustainable it will be or if it will work, but let's try it out until it breaks!
To submit your information, use the survey below. I'll try to turn it around in a week or two. Hopefully, we can work together to find the best ways to use our unique skills, experience, and interests. 💛
A few notes about the questions:
name
If you prefer not to share your real name, you’re welcome to use a pseudonym or descriptive title (like those old Dear Abby sign-offs of “curious mom” or “anxious neighbor” or what have you). You need to be able to identify it. But if you use an offensive or inappropriate name, I won’t share it.
city & state
Because we’re focusing on local community building, knowing where you live generally can help guide recommendations. Certain areas have specific needs based on local politics, geography, climate, population, demographics, etc.
area/topics of concern or interest
Are there topics of more significant concern to you (e.g., reproductive rights, voting rights, immigration, taxes, climate, food insecurity, education, jobs/economy, etc)? Sharing this information could also help spark ideas that best fit your desires.
skills & past experiences
Share a bit about your skills and past experiences (personal or professional) that might be relevant to how you can use those skills to build community or promote civic action.
interests
What are some things you're interested in that might guide you in how you could be a community builder in a way that excites you? It will be hard to sustain if it's not interesting to you and doesn't connect with you. 💛 Do you love crafts, gardening, outdoors, sports, reading, etc....
social media channels
Sharing these is optional. It might help us better understand your skills and interests (if they are public). If not, or you’re not on social media (congrats 😉), no worries.
Any suggestions? Let me know. Let's build this together and see where it takes us.
